A pleasantly fruity and smooth whey protein powder option
|

I've been trying out lots of different whey protein powders as a dietary supplement. My major problem is that I don't like the vanilla, chocolate, strawberry options that mimic milkshakes (which I hate). So I've been working my way through a variety of unflavored and fruit-flavored options looking for one that is pleasant tasting, non-chalky and without a bitter aftertaste.
This DESIGNER WHEY Pomegranate Fruit option fit the bill. This whey protein powder offers a pungent fruit flavor that is not overpowering. It is smooth without any chalkiness and it has no aftertaste. I've since tried a couple of other varieties and also like the orange mango.
This is my new go-to option for whey protein powder mixes. Even better the packages are pre-measured for a bottle of water and thus easy to take on the go. |
Tasty Protein without that "protein shake" taste

I really like this protein drink. I lift weights and cycle 6 days a week. Sometimes after 40 to 60 minutes I need a little fuel. Especially on those weight lifting days, I want that fuel to have some protein. This whey protein fits the bill.
-It mixes easily at the gym in my water bottle
-It dissolves into a juice consistency rather than a thick shake consistency
-It is whey protein and not soy protein
-The fruit flavor is pleasant (I mixed it at the "light" ratio with water)
-10 grams of protein with only 50 calories!
-It does not have that characteristic protein shake taste
-Contains vitamins and antioxidants
If you are looking to pound some carbs for energy, this is not the drink - it has only 2 grams of carbs. If you are looking to give your muscle some protein to build with, without feeling like you just drank a shake, this is a good choice. |
Pretty tasty and extremely convenient

These packets provide an extremely quick and easy way to get 10 grams of
protein into your diet. In addition, they contain "fruitwell" which
provides antioxidants and it tastes pretty good.
There are plenty of times when I need something to tide me over until my
next meal. These 50 calories and 10 grams of protein (in addition to
the water used) curb my appetite for a couple hours without me having to
go for the full-on 150-200 calorie protein shake. They have gotten me
through a few 3PM cookie seeking afternoons with a much healthier
outcome. |
No after taste

I really do like the taste of this product. It quickly disolves in 20oz of water and has a nice subtle taste with no after taste or grit.
I find it great for an afternoon pick me up when I really don't want to hit caffine again but need something with a little substance for the rest of the day. I also find when I use it as an afternoon 'snack' I'm not as hungry when I arive home - so less likely to make poor food choices. |
Convenient, but some may struggle with the taste

Pros:
Convenient. It comes in a tube that is easy to open-no plastic or need for scissors here. Just pour it into a bottle of water, shake, and drink. Who doesn't like a grab-and-go product?
Good for vegetarians. Those of us who prefer not to eat meat may struggle to get enough protein. Legumes have their disadvantages, and well...we prefer not to eat meat. Here you go. A protein drink for vegetarians (but not vegans-there is dairy).
Sweet, and it has pomegranate which has tremendous health benefits.
Neutral fact: this drink is medium on the solubility scale. I've had much worse, but you'll still have a blob on the bottom unless you work at it.
Disadvantages: I had an issue with the smell as I was drinking it (probably from the buttermilk). Since 90% of your taste is smell...it was reminiscent to something I find unsavory and the taste came back a couple of times. The taste wasn't bad at first, but after a couple of sips my opinion started to change.
It didn't sit well in my stomach.
Bottom line: Some health benefits and convenience may convince you to go ahead and try it anyway. Four stars because taste is a matter of opinion. Maybe you wouldn't have a problem with the taste or smell, and if you don't, this could be the product for you. But there is dairy, soy (which, allergies aside, should probably be consumed in moderation), and artificial stuffs in there. |
